The Family Policy Council involves each community in finding its own unique pathway to stronger families.
We engage communities in reducing multiple problem behaviors including child abuse and substance abuse, and work to improve the state's policies that impact the lives of children and families in Washington State.

Our Mission

Initiated in 1989 with statutory authorization in 1992, the Family Policy Council (FPC) of Washington State is charged with making systemic changes to improve outcomes for children and families.

One of the Council's main activities is working with state Community Public Health and Safety Networks to reduce interrelated social problems: child abuse and neglect, youth substance abuse, youth violence, domestic violence, youth suicide, teen pregnancy and male parentage, dropping out of school and child out of home placements. These Networks are community-based, volunteer boards, developed to give local communities more autonomy, resources to help improve the lives of children and families in their communities, and provide recommendations for policy changes to improve state and local child and family serving systems.
